William J. Wheelock January 28, 1927 - May 6, 2013
William J. "Bill" Wheelock, age 86 of Janesville, died Monday, May 6, 2013 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 11th at 2:30 P.M. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville with Fr. Peter Klein, Celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Ann Cemetery in Janesville.
Visitation will be held on Friday at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville from 4 to 8 P.M. Arrangements are being completed by Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Janesville.
William Joseph was born January 28, 1927 to Joseph and Marie (Gleason) Wheelock in Waseca, Minnesota. He was baptized at St. Mary''s Catholic Church in rural Waseca and confirmed at Sacred Heart Church in Waseca. Bill attended Sacred Heart High School in Waseca, graduating with the class of 1945. He entered military service in the United States Army on June 26, 1945. He completed basic training at Camp Fannin, Texas before serving in the European Theatre. Bill was honorably discharged on November 21, 1946. He was united in marriage to Theresa Klug on October 11, 1949 at St. Mary''s Catholic Church in rural Waseca. Bill and Theresa raised their family and farmed in Waseca and Janesville area. He also worked for a short time at Winegar Inc. in Waseca. In 2004, Bill and Theresa moved into Janesville. He was a longtime member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville, and life member of the Janesville American Legion Post #281 and the Sweet-Sommers V.F.W. Post #1642 in Waseca. Bill enjoyed sports, especially football, hunting, and fishing. He treasured his family, and felt blessed that he was able to enjoy his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa of Janesville; children, David Wheelock of Janesville, Gary Wheelock of Eagan, Bruce (Martha) Wheelock of Smiths Mill, Keith (Gwen) Wheelock of Janesville, Betty (Chris) Schmidt of St. Clair, and Edward (DeAnna) Wheelock of Janesville; by many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother-in-law, John (Mary) Klug, and sister-in-law, Mavis Wheelock, all of Waseca; many nieces and
nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Wheelock in 2001; grandson, David Wheelock, Jr. in 1996; parents, Joseph and Marie Wheelock; brother, Robert Wheelock; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Bertha Klug.
Casketbearers are Bill''s children: Dave Wheelock, Gary Wheelock, Bruce Wheelock, Keith Wheelock, Betty Schmidt, and Ed Wheelock.
