William "Bill" Oscar Enger Sr.

WILLIAM “BILL” OSCAR ENGER SR., age 92, of Mankato, died on January 18, 2022, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

Born on June 14, 1929, in Mankato to Oscar and Alice (Decker) Enger. Bill was baptized as an infant at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato and confirmed in his faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. He grew up in Eagle Lake and Janesville, receiving his education at Trinity Lutheran School and Janesville Public School. Following his education Bill enlisted into the United States Army in 1951, serving his country during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1954. He worked as a butcher throughout his life at Wistes Meat Market in Janesville and at Madsens in Mankato where he met his future wife, Harriet (Earle) Dawson. Bill and Harriet were united in marriage on December 31, 1969, in Algona, IA. Shortly after their marriage, Bill and Harriet were proud to welcome their son, William Oscar Enger Jr. into the world. He was also proud to be the father of all of Harriet’s children, caring for them as his own. William and Harriet shared 50 years of marriage before she passed away on February 8, 2020. He enjoyed bowling, playing cribbage and being involved with the Janesville American Legion where he was a long time member. He was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville.

Bill is survived by his children: William Oscar Enger Jr. of Mankato, Scott (Heidi) Enger of New Richland, Tammy Enger of Truman, Tina Martin of Mankato, Violet (Dan) Wynnemer of N. Mankato, Clayton (Shannon) Dawson of New Richland, and Caroline Fredrick of N. Mankato; 16 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; siblings: Mary Linde of Janesville and Paul (Linda) Enger of Owatonna; sisters-in-law: Ruth Jones of Prescott, WI; Anna (Daryl) Stordahl of Mankato; brother-in-law: Denny (Carol) Earle of Mankato; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother; sister in infancy; and one grandson.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM on Monday, January 24, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville with Rev. Brian Johnston officiating. Interment will be in the Janesville Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Military Honors will be provided by the Janesville American Legion.
