Warren Shevlin February 15, 1925 - June 24, 2011
Warren A. Shevlin, 86, a life-long resident of Faribault died Friday, June 24, 2011 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Dr., Faribault on Tuesday, June 28 at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Kevin Finnegan officiating. Interment will be at St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault, with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association. Visitation will be at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Monday, June 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. and also at the church one hour prior to service on Tuesday. Warren Anthony Shevlin, son of Leo and Angela (Speckaels) Shevlin was born on February 15, 1925 in Faribault, MN. He married the love of his life, Lorraine Olson on September 15, 1946 in Tacoma, Washington. Warren served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Corporal until his honorable discharge. Warren worked for P.J. Gallagher as a steamfitter. He then started W.A. Shevlin Excavating Company and later also started W.A. Shevlin Construction Company. Warren built and maintained roads in the Rice County area for many years. Warren and Lorraine started Shevlin''s Thrift Shop in Faribault in 1967, which is now owned and operated by Jan and Mark Hansen. Warren was a member of the Faribault Aerie 1460 Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the American Legion Post 43. Warren is survived by his beloved wife Lorraine and daughters; Jan (Mark) Hansen of Faribault, Joan (Michael) Chavie of Faribault, Cindy (Jack) Shevlin-Woodcock of Brooklyn Park, MN , Marilyn "Punky" (Dennis) Morris of Wasilla, Alaska and Madonna (Mark) Chaika of Anchorage, Alaska, eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Lucy Olson of Faribault, and many nieces and nephews. Warren cherished his wife of 65 years Lorraine. He also loved to fish, dance and travel. Warren and Lorraine spent many winters in Apache Junction, AZ. Warren is preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, two sisters Bernice Lang of Bloomington and Marcella Forcelle of Faribault and brother Gordon Shevlin of Faribault. Memorials may be directed to Homestead Hospice in Owatonna in memory of Warren.
