Verna V. Fog

September 23, 1929 — September 25, 2017

Verna Fog, 88 year old resident of Waseca, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday morning, September 25, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM on Friday, September 29, 2017, at Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca. Private family interment will be held in Woodville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Starkson & Steffel Funeral Home ~ McRaith Chapel in Waseca. The family will receive the public following the service during the luncheon.

Verna Virginia (Eissinger) Fog was born on September 23, 1929, the only child of Benjamin and Christine (Lang) Eissinger in Wishek, North Dakota on a farm homesteaded by her grandfather, Adam Eissinger, an immigrant from Ukraine, Russia.

Verna Graduated from Wishek High School in 1947 and went on to college at North Dakota State University in Fargo, Majoring in home economics with minors in english, music and science.

Upon Graduation in 1951, she married Peter Andreas Fog, also a graduate of NDSU. They taught in Ulen High School the first years she in home economics he in vocational agriculture. In 1952, they moved to Halstad, MN with similar positions where she opened a new home economics department. When their children began to arrive, she put her career on "hold" and became a full-time mother and homemaker. While teaching she organized a FHA (Future Homemakers of America) Chapter and an adult Home Extension Club called Modern Trends. Both she and Peter were very active in their community, church and school activities.

In 1968, Peter accepted a position at the University of Minnesota College of Agriculture at Crookston and the family moved there. In 1971, Peter was offered a job with the newly organized U of M Technical College of Agriculture in Waseca. Verna did some teaching at the college with Home & Family Services. Later she became a bookmobile librarian with the LeSueur Waseca Regional Library System where she worked until Peters retirement in 1990.

While teaching, Peter was granted a sabbatical to study 2 year technical agricultural colleges in England and Denmark. They were gone for four months and were able to renew acquaintances with many of Peters relatives in Denmark.

Verna enjoyed being a homemaker liked to read enjoyed camping and traveling, singing in the church choir, cooking and entertaining. She was devoted to family and enjoyed the privilege of having a "big" family with Peters six siblings.

She leaves behind her husband of 66 years, Peter; three children: David (Kelley) Fog of Emmetsburg, IA; Kristi (Adler) Brennan of Issaquah, WA; Kathryn Meisel of Winona; eight Grandchildren: Dan Fog, Becky Fog, Laura (Brandon) Grimm, Joshua Fog, Sarah Adler, Robbie Adler, Matthew (Jill) Meisel, Mark Meisel; three great grandchildren: Tyler, Dakota and Scarlet; two brothers-in-law: Gunnar (Ruth) Fog of Sawyer, MI, Jorgen (Patsy) Fog of Shoreview, MN and one sister-in-law, Anna Isakson of LaMoure, ND; numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Verna is preceded in death by her parents.
