Verna Esther Kuhn

VERNA ESTHER KUHN, age 84, died peacefully at Foxdale Senior Living in Waseca on Sunday morning, June 14, 2020.

Born on July 17, 1935, to Leo and Esther (Trautman) Koster in Lake Benton, Minnesota. She attended Lake Benton High School, graduating with the class of 1953. Verna continued her education at Mankato State Teachers College. On December 21, 1957, Verna was united in marriage to Gerald Kuhn at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Lake Benton. Verna and Jerry lived in various cities in their first years of marriage due to Jerry’s service in the Air Force. Following his honorable discharge they moved to Chicago and later made their home in Minnesota while raising two sons.

Verna loved children. She taught preschool her entire life in many cities, most notably she taught for 40 years at Christian Day Child Academy in Eagan before retiring in 2000. In retirement Verna and Jerry moved to Waseca where she was active with “Little Lambs” child care at St. Paul Lutheran Church. In addition to caring for and teaching children in a Christian school setting she adored her grandchildren, never missing an event of theirs, cheering them on at various activities. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waseca. She had a great faith which she instilled into her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

Survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Jerry of Waseca; sons: Gregg (Angie) of Apple Valley, and Todd (Karin) of Lakeville; grandchildren: Andrew, Jordan, Taylor, Will and Charlie Kuhn; siblings: Lester (Carol) Koster, David (Liz) Koster, Byrl (Karen) Koster, Dale (Sharon) Koster, Joel (Kathy) Koster and Diann (Gene) Moon; brother-in-law, Don (Barb) Kuhn; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Bob Kuhn.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM on Friday, June 19, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church (314 4th Ave NE, Waseca, MN 56093) with Rev. Dr. Larry Griffin officiating. Interment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery on a later date. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Memorials are preferred to donor’s choice.
