Verdis Flaten
VERDIS ARLO FLATEN, age 71 of Morristown died on Monday, April 8, 2019 at his home in Morristown.
Born on January 4, 1948 in Halma, Minnesota, he was the son of Melvin and Violet (Wicklund) Flaten. He attended school in Faribault before graduating from Waterville High School in 1966. He then went on to serve in the National Guard from 1966 until 1970. Verdis married Pamela Huber and they were later divorced. He later married Colleen Dwyer and they were also divorced. He worked for several businesses over the years including C&S Vending, Farm Bureau, and was currently working in maintenance at Cabelas. Verdis also worked as a bartender at the American Legion in Morristown for over 20 years.
Verdis served as the mayor of Waterville during the 1980s and later served on the Morristown City Council. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Verdis loved to talk to everyone about his children and grandchildren. Not only did he love them and was proud of them, but he was honored to be their dad and grandfather.
He is survived by four children, Mike (Shelly) Flaten of Hibbing, Kathy (Kyle) Atherton of Waterville, John (Rebecca) Flaten of Altoona, WI, and Timothy Flaten of Morristown and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Wallace Flaten.
Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waterville on Sunday, April 14, 2019 from 2-5 PM and continue on Monday, one hour before services at the church. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 15, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville.
