Theresa O''Brien Hanley, age 102 of Faribault passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Faribault. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, Faribault. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory in Faribault on Thursday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the church. Theresa Bernadette O''Brien was born September 15, 1909, to Thomas and Veronica (Loeffler) O''Brien in the rural Kilkenny community. Theresa graduated from Bethlehem Academy with the class of 1929, completed teacher training, and taught in country schools for several years prior to marrying John Hanley on June 20, 1933 at St. Canice Catholic Church in Kilkenny. He preceded her in death on February 21, 1980. After her children had all begun school, she returned to teach for 17 years at Immaculate Conception Elementary School. Theresa enjoyed gardening, reading, dancing, and spending time with her family and friends. She received several awards for her volunteer work, and in 1992 Theresa was named Rice County Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year. She was an active participant in activities at the Senior Center, most notably as a member of the Kitchen Band. She is survived by three sons, Richard Hanley (Phyllis) of Wayzata, MN, Lee Hanley (Mary) of Minneapolis, MN, and Dennis Hanley (Patricia) of Gaithersburg, MD; 23 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hanley; son, Joseph Hanley; daughter, Rita Hanley; grandson, Michael Hanley; two daughters-in- law, Kathleen Hanley and Ellen Hanley; four brothers, Jack, Steven, Tom, and Jim O''Brien; and seven sisters, Veronica Hagerty, Mary Brown, Margaret Shea, Anastasia Lank, Sister Alice Veronica O''Brien, Sister Catherine O''Brien, and Agnes Hagerty. The family wishes to acknowledge the care and service provided by the staff at Pleasant Manor, the Hospice staff, and the pastoral support of Divine Mercy Parish. The family prefers memorials to Bethlehem Academy or Divine Mercy Catholic Church.
