SUSAN MARIE QUIRAM, age 59 of Elysian, died as the result of injuries she sustained in an UTV accident south of Mapleton on the evening of Thursday, September 15, 2022.
Born in Waseca on June 27, 1963, Sue was the daughter of Allan and Patricia (Cummins) Quiram. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Elysian. Growing up, she attended school in Elysian before graduating from Waterville-Elysian High School with the class of 1981. During her time in school she was a three sport athlete that excelled in volleyball, basketball, and track. Following her schooling Sue worked various jobs around southern Minnesota and was an incredibly hard worker. In 1983 Sue was married to Gregory VanHoudt and they had three children before they later divorced. She enjoyed traveling, boating, fishing, and just being on the water. She was a talented card player and pool player, and she was a very artistic person. She will be greatly missed.
Sue is survived by her special friend, Lance Lieferman of Mapleton; her mother, Patricia Quiram of Janesville; three children, James (Nadine) VanHoudt of Mankato, Sarah VanHoudt and her significant other Cody Luiken of Janesville, and Timothy (Sara) VanHoudt of Janesville; two grandchildren, Reese VanHoudt and Chance Luiken; one brother, Robert (Constance) Quiram of Elk River; a niece, Jennifer (Matthew) Swantz of Princeton; a nephew, Charles (Nicole) Quiram of St. Peter; great-nephew and great-niece, Gavin and Gemma Swantz; and a great-niece, Lucy Quiram. She was preceded in death by her father.
A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2022 at the Waterville Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, with Rev. Brian Johnston officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Elysian.
