STEWART L. ROEMHILDT, age 64 of Elysian died on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Born on August 9, 1950 in Mankato, Minnesota, he was the son of Willard and Nydia (Peterson) Roemhildt. He graduated from Waterville-Elysian High School in 1968 and served in the U.S. Army from 1970 until his honorable discharge in 1972. Stewart married Susan Van Houdt on August 16, 1975 in Elysian. He was employed with Winco in Le Center from 1977 until his retirement in 2013 due to his health. He also worked on his hobby farm raising chickens, ducks and cows. Stewart enjoyed hunting deer and coon, fishing, and gardening, crossword puzzles, playing cards and watching sports on TV. He also loved spending time with his family and friends, especially the grandchildren. He was a member of St. Peter "Bell" Lutheran Church and the North Elysian Silver Lakers.
Stewart is survived by his wife, Sue of Elysian; one daughter, Angela (Tauston) Taylor of Elysian; three grandchildren, Autumn, Addyson and Talen; and special nephew, James Van Houdt of Mankato. He is also survived by two brothers, Aaron (Dorothy) Roemhildt of Elysian and Gaylen (Collette) Roemhildt of Waterville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dan (Donna) Van Houdt of Quakertown, PA, Ron (Terri) Van Houdt of Waterville, Kay (Richard) Symon of Larimore, ND, Ann Van Houdt of Elysian, Doug Van Houdt of Elysian, Greg (Kim) Van Houdt of Mankato, Henry (Julie) Van Houdt of Waterville, and Nancy Van Houdt of Mankato; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son in infancy; parents-in-law, William and Evelyn Van Houdt; and two brothers-in-law, Jack and Bill Van Houdt.
Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waterville on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 from 4-8 PM and continue on Thursday, one hour before services at the church. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter "Bell" Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery.
