Steven John Potter, 67 of Montezuma, Iowa, died on Sunday, December 11, 2011 of complications from the treatment of throat cancer. He was born on September 27, 1944 in Redwood Falls, Minnesota to John and Lois (Kissner) Potter. Steven attended school in Paynesville, Minnesota. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1961, serving in Germany, and returning home in 1965. In 1966 Steven married Joan Meyer in Paynesville, Minnesota. Together they had two children, Michelle and Bryan. Steven worked for years in sales, everything from refrigerators to coffee to radio advertising. He loved to find a failing radio station and bring it back to the top. He taught them to hold their own before moving on to the next challenge. Steven married Gloria Hurd in Anoka, Minnesota in 1975 and continued working in sales until deciding to pursue a career in Long Haul Trucking, something he had always dreamed of doing. He retired in Montezuma, Iowa following Gloria''s death. Steven is survived by his children Michelle Potter-Bacon and Bryan Potter and grandchildren Siri and Birk Bacon, all of Austin, TX; his mother Lois Bridges and sister Lori Pfeifle and one nephew and two nieces all of Wenatchee, WA; brother Thomas Potter of Sacramento, CA. Also his special friend and cousin Marilyn (Potter) Lau of Waseca, MN. Steven was preceded in death by his father John, his brother, Douglas and granddaughter, Liv. His family especially wishes to thank Steven''s special friends Tom, Helen and Margie Wheeldon of Montezuma, Iowa. Burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
