STEVEN HENRY SEXTON, age 70, of Janesville, died on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.
Steve Sexton was born on June 15, 1950, in Mankato, to Harold and Marian (Dauk) Sexton. He was raised on the farm outside of Janesville and attended Janesville High School, graduating with the class of 1968. Following his education Steve attended South Central Technical College to study mechanics. It was during his time at college where he met Bonnie Evans at a school dance. They were later united in marriage at St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone on November 13, 1971. Together they made their home in Janesville where they raised four children.
Steve was a true farmer. In his younger years he helped his dad and continued to help his brother. Steve was honored to pass down his love for farming to his son. He worked for Minnesota Department of Transportation for 32 years before retiring in 2011. Steve enjoyed woodworking, puzzles, planting and tending to his garden and mechanical work as he could fix anything. He was a devote lifelong member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville. Steve was a family man and cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Blessed be his memory.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Bonnie of Janesville; children: Jodie Sexton Mogensen of Mankato, Derek (Heidi) Sexton of Janesville, Jessica (Ryan) DeBoer of Milaca and Katie (Aaron) Schlingmann of Janesville; ten grandchildren: Brennen and Kaden Mogensen, Emma Sexton, Kennen, Ellaina and Drayson DeBoer and Grace, Kyla, Aidan, and Liam Schlingmann; two sisters; two brothers, one being his best friend, Marty; brothers-in-law: Ray (Ginny) Evans, Ron Raatz, Ron (Gloria) Evans, Jim (Mary) Evans, Dennis (Jen) Evans, and Jerry (Ruth) Evans; sisters-in-law: Kathy Vogh, Lucy (Jim) Klein, Barb (Gary) Jopp, Mary (Gary) Anderson, Janelle (Randy) Gorter, and Joyce (Jay) Travis; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Gerald and Ruth (Moore) Evans; brothers-in-law: Vic Vogh and Brian Crawford; sister-in-law, Geri Raatz.
Visitation will be from 4-6 PM on Monday, August 17, 2020 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville. Private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held. Interment will be in St. Ann Catholic Cemetery.
