Stanley Markey
STANLEY E. MARKEY, age 102, of Waseca (formerly of Minneapolis) died at Lake Shore Inn in Waseca on April 1, 2018.  Stan was born September 17, 1915 in Dows, Iowa to George and Ethel Markey.  He graduated from Worthington High School in 1933 where he was active in plays, cross country, debate and orchestra. Following graduation, the family moved near the University of Minnesota for Stan to attend college, where he earned a BS in architectural engineering in 1941.
While attending college, Stanley met the love of his life, Frances Wales. They married in 1940 and lived most of their married life in Minneapolis. Stanley was a professional engineer working in management on heavy construction of power plants, grain facilities, etc. While they remodeled many homes, Stan proudly designed their last home they enjoyed almost 50 years.
Upon retirement, Stanley followed his love of music and returned to college to take music classes.  He played his favorite instruments, cello and bass, in several orchestras and string quartets.
Stanley was a caring husband, father, and grandfather. He had many adventures with his children and grandchildren, teaching them much about the world.  After the children were grown, Stan and Fran enjoyed traveling to family across the nation and cruising the Pacific. They celebrated their 75th anniversary before Frances passed away in 2015.
Stan believed in exercise. He climbed many stairs, rode his bike until 90, went for long walks that sometimes turned into runs and continued his pushup regimen daily into his 100s.  In Waseca they referred to him as that 'Man That Walks'.
They moved to Latham Place assisted living in Waseca in 2006 when Stan had a bike accident and needed help caring for Fran. They both enjoyed living in Waseca, the lakes, and the care they received.

He will forever be remembered by their five children, Marilyn (John) Teskey of Waseca, MN;  Janice Hoppmann of Charleston, SC, Julie (Pat) Pyle of Carson, CA,  John Markey of Bloomington, MN and Bruce Markey of Burlingame, CA; seven grandchildren, Mark (Heather) Teskey of Edina, MN, Jay (Chris) Teskey of Blue Earth, MN, Jacqie (Dan) Lind of St. Louis Park, MN, Carl (Becky) Hoppmann of Charleston, SC, Patrick (Jenn) Pyle of Redondo Beach, CA, Anne Pyle of Arcadia, CA and James Pyle of Redondo Beach, CA. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren: Kale, Finn, Jack, Harper and Dottie Hoppmann, William and Elizabeth Teskey, Laila Lind, and Jaesyn, Jaxon, Jensyn and Jessalyn Pyle.  He is also survived by several sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, siblings, and wife's siblings.
Visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, April 6, 2018 at the Lakewood Cemetery Chapel in Minneapolis, with Rev. Joe Dokken officiating.
He was an inspiration to so many and will be remembered fondly by all he touched.
