Maureen R. Smith

Maureen Rose Allen Smith, 63, of Mankato, Minn., died peacefully on July 5, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System of Mankato.

Maureen was born in Marshall, Minn., on May 23, 1950, the 6th of 14 children born to Richard and Eleanor Allen. She grew up in Mankato and attended elementary school at Saint Peter and Paul’s Catholic School and graduated from Good Counsel Academy.

Maureen married Patrick Smith on January 17, 1970. They were blessed with four children who were raised in Waseca. Maureen dedicated her life to raising her children, and later, her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and passionate storyteller and writer.

Maureen is survived by her sons Patrick of Waseca, Michael (Marnie) of Owatonna, Luke (Nicole) of Otsego and Noah (Catrina) of Eagle Lake; grandchildren Andrew, Jocelyn, Kole, Parker, Carson, Gregory, Penelope and Jameson; Ericka Smith; and 12 siblings.

Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Richard.

Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 from 4-7 PM with a 6:30 PM parish prayer service and continue on Wednesday, one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Greg Leif officiating. Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Jude Children’s Fund.
