SHIRLEY MARIE ROEMHILDT, age 91 of Waterville, passed away at her home on Thursday, January 29, 2015.
Born on the family farm three miles north of Waterville on October 5, 1923, Shirley was the daughter of Clyde and Agatha (Ellert) Coughlin. She attended school in Waterville. She married her husband, Melvin C. Roemhildt at seventeen years of age on October 12, 1940 in Le Sueur County. The summer after their marriage they moved to California where their two children were born. After four years they returned to Minnesota and lived northwest of Elysian on the family farm. She went to work at the E.F. Johnson Company in 1954 and was soon promoted to fore-lady. She retired in 1987. She was very active in the Waterville Senior Citizens Center and had held the office of president in addition to sitting on the board of directors. Shirley enjoyed playing cards, socializing, going out to lunch, cooking, following the Minnesota Twins and the Florida Gators, and caring for her special kitty cats, Cody, Baby, and Kayla. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Waterville for many years.
Shirley is survived by two children, Diane (Tom) Le Mon of Ramsey, and Keith (Mary) Roemhildt of Blaine; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband; one sister; and one granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 6, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Waterville, with Rev. Gene Witte and Rev. Bryan Surrett officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church. Interment will follow at Sakatah Cemetery in Waterville.
