SHIRLEY JANE (BLACK) MADIGAN, age 73 of Janesville peacefully died on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at her home with her children Jeff and Sara at her side.
Born in St. James, MN on November 22, 1946, Shirley was the daughter of Wilbert and Cora (Stolzmann) Black. She graduated from Winnebago High School in 1964. Shirley attended Brett’s Beauty School in Mankato, which led to a successful career as a beautician and business owner for over 40 years in Waseca and Janesville and finally hung up her scissors and cape on the retirement rack in 2009. Shirley married LeRoy William “Bill” Madigan, Jr. on December 4, 1971 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca. As the wife of a Marine and Vietnam veteran she was a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a lifetime member of the Waseca VFW Auxiliary. Shirley enjoyed bowling, watching sports, and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins. When the weather permitted Shirley always enjoyed being out in mother nature’s great outdoors fishing (from the bank, dock, or boat… it didn’t matter), camping, golfing and taking in a few wildlife drives. Shirley adored her two grandchildren and kept busy spoiling them! Shirley knew how to have fun, she was the life of the party, had a great sense of humor, the biggest heart and made many friends. She will be greatly missed for her independent spirit, wit, and sass!
Shirley is survived by two children, Jeffrey Madigan (girlfriend Carrie) of Seattle, WA and Sara Madigan (Brad Fritz) of Roseville, MN; two grandchildren, Ella Fritz and Julius “J.B.” Fritz; She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill; and all her siblings, Vernell (Dick) Harbitz, Robert Black, Delbert Black, Lorraine Black, and Joanne Stauffer.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at a later date.
