Shirley Amundson September 12, 1940 - October 28, 2011

Shirley A. Amundson, age 71, of Faribault, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2011 at the Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis following a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Dr., Faribault. Interment will be at the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory in Faribault on Tuesday, November 8th from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday for one hour prior to the services at the church. Shirley Ann Duchene, the daughter of Raymond F. and Isabelle (Carpenter) Duchene, was born on September 12, 1940 in Faribault. She graduated from Faribault High School with the class of 1958 and later attended Faribault Vocational Technical College. Shirley married Harold Amundson, they had four daughters and were later divorced. As a youth Shirley worked at her family''s business, Duchene''s Grocery Store and prior to her children being born worked as a legal secretary for Warren Chamberlain. She was a homemaker for her daughters and also worked at Faribault Federal, the Lovin'' Oven, and was head cook at C & S Vending for many years. Shirley then worked for 13 years with H.D. Hudson Manufacturing Co. in Faribault and Hastings. Shirley loved being with her family, and cherished her time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching sports and was very proud to attend her grandchildren''s events. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards. Shirley was a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Church, and was very devoted to her Catholic faith. She also lived her life being proud of her Irish heritage. She is survived by her four daughters, Chris (Mike) Petricka of Kenyon, Laura (Bruce) Chmelik of Faribault, Barb Amundson of Faribault, and Terri (Jeff) Fehn of New London, MN; 13 grandchildren, Brandi (Troy), Kelly (Nick), John (Lisa), Jaclyn (Matt), Marc, Tyler (Ashley), Cassie (Dustin), Dustin (Emily), Cody, Megan, Mitchell, Jenn, and Mandi; six great grandchildren, Kailey, Mariah, Isabella, Trenten, Adeline, and Naomi; siblings, Howard (Nori) Duchene of Pipestone, MN, Donald (Ceil) Duchene of Faribault, Kenneth DuChene of Aitkin, MN, and Sharon (Jerry) Mangold, of Faribault; by special family, Betty Duchene of Faribault and Gerry Meissner of Roseville, MN, and our extended Amundson family; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Duchene, and Francis and Isabelle Duchene Newcombe; brothers, Robert J.
