Ruth Margarethe Christiane Walther

RUTH MARGARETHE CHRISTIANE (EWERT) WALTHER, age 99, of Janesville passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at Whispering Creek Nursing Home in Janesville.

Ruth was born on July 25, 1923 in Alton Township, Waseca County to Erich and Hulda (Nicolai) Ewert. She attended county school through the sixth grade then attended Trinity Lutheran School for seventh and eighth grade. She graduated from Janesville High School and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BS degree in dietetics. She worked as a dietitian at Barns Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri and at Mercy Hospital in Burlington, Iowa. She married Vernon Walther on May 17, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church.

She was a long-time member of Mother’s Club. She enjoyed doing counted cross stitch and volunteering at the church and nursing home.

Ruth is survived by her children, James Walther of Forest Hill, MD, Tom (Dianne) Walther of Waseca, Barbara (Larry) Flaten of Janesville, Judy (Dan) Seys of Janesville; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and sister, Arlene Tschirhart of San Antonio, TX.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Walther; parents, Erich and Hulda Ewert; brothers, Loren Ewert, Marty Ewert; sister, Vera Lundquist; and daughter-in-law, Naomi Walther.

A private family service for Ruth is being held. Private interment at Janesville Cemetery. Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service is handling arrangements.
