Russell Clark Hoeffner

June 5, 1943 — November 27, 2024

Janesville, Minnesota

RUSSELL CLARK HOEFFNER, age 81, of rural Janesville, died on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at his home.

Russell was born on June 5, 1943, to John and Alberta “Birdie” (Robinson) Hoeffner at a ranch near Helena, Montana. He attended school in Helena until his junior year of high school when his family moved to Minnesota for his mother’s Job. Russell graduated from St. Paul Johnson High School in 1961. He continued his education at St. Thomas University in St. Paul where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. He later completed his Specialist Degree in Administration at Mankato State University. Through his undergraduate studies, Russell was in ROTC but had to resign to care for his parents. On August 5, 1965, Russell was united in marriage to Christine Larson at Arlington Hills Lutheran Church. Throughout his life, he worked at several school districts including New Richland, Franklin, Preston, Ceylon, Waterville and Stewartville, retiring in 2000.

Russell had a strong conviction and commitment to education, which was evident by his master’s in education and career as a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent. Russell also had a passion for sports. He was fortunate enough to be the high school quarterback at St. Paul Johnson, loved coaching baseball in New Richland and was an avid fan, frequently seen (and heard) at his kids and grandkid’s sporting events including volleyball, track, soccer, and basketball, no matter how far he had to travel. Russell was proud of his Montana family and heritage; he was a cowboy at heart. In 1990, Russell and Christine moved to Reeds Lake. Although he was not much of a fisherman, he enjoyed leisurely pontoon rides and a good cigar. They also traveled to St. Simon for many years where they met amazing friends. Russell was a proud man, especially of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed golfing, relishing his retirement job at Waseca Lakeside Golf Course and the countless rounds he played at St. Simons Island. He also enjoyed giving a toast and loved telling jokes and stories.

Russell is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Christine; daughter, Traci Green; son, Keith Hoeffner; grandchildren, Haley, Madelyn “Madi”, and Andrew; and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Kenny (Mary Faith) Hoeffner and Eddy Hoeffner.

Russell’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the Waseca County Deputies, EMT, ambulance service and Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral Home for the heartfelt care that was given to him and his family.
