ROMAN WILFRED KOENIGS, age 86 of Waseca, passed away late in the evening on Monday, August 15, 2022 at Thorne Crest Senior Living in Albert Lea.
Born on June 8, 1936 in Osage, Iowa, Roman was the son of Paul and Marie (Bissen) Koenigs. He attended Sacred Heart Elementary School in Meyer, Iowa, and graduated from McIntire High School, McIntire, Iowa before serving in the US Army from November 1955 to November 1957. During that time Roman was trained in International Morse Code. He also served in Korea where he earned the Rank of Sp. 4 and received an honorable discharge November 1957. After being discharged from the service Roman worked at the Stacyville Co-op Elevator for 7 years. He then went into Insurance Sales from 1965 to 2006. Roman married Ruth Ann Bartlett on June 18, 1960 and lived in Waterloo for 25 years. Roman and Ruth have 2 sons and 2 daughters. Roman and Ruth later moved to Waseca in 1993.
He enjoyed golf and was very lucky during his years playing golf, receiving three Holes in One! He also enjoyed cars, especially Mustangs. He was a member of the V.F.W., Lakeside Country Club, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Waseca.
Roman is survived by his wife Ruth of Waseca; children Kevin (Lynn) Koenigs of North Mankato, Carmell (James) Scott of Albert Lea, Christopher Koenigs of Albert Lea, and Susan Johnson and her significant other Richard Stoese of Northfield; seven grandsons; one granddaughter; seven great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; siblings, Deo (Joan) Koenigs of St. Ansgar, IA, Jerry (Sandra) Koenigs of McIntire, IA, Elaine Ramberg of Hugo; and one sister-in-law, Bonnie Koenigs. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; one brother, John Koenigs; one daughter-in-law, Deby Koenigs; and numerous other special relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at the State Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waseca. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the funeral home. Private interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Waseca.
