Roland George Berry

ROLAND GEORGE BERRY, age 88 of Waseca died on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the Owatonna Hospital in Owatonna.

Born on August 30, 1934 in Waseca, Minnesota, he was the son of George and Goldie (Armstrong) Berry.  Roland was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his youth, both at St. Mary Catholic Church in rural Waseca. He attended school in rural St. Mary Township before graduating from Waldorf High School in 1953.  Following his schooling he went to work for Birds Eye where he met the love of his life, Helen Rose Bower.  They were united in marriage on June 16, 1956 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Roland was a life-long dairy and crop farmer. He always looked forward to the fall harvest, especially driving the grain truck.  Roland loved his animals, bee keeping, and playing cards with friends.  He enjoyed the farmers market where he sold honey and eggs.  In his later years Roland worked for Berry Pallets. In retirement, he remained young and healthy by staying active, cutting and splitting wood.  Roland and Helen enjoyed traveling later in life and they enjoyed their drives to see family.   He was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca.

Roland is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Helen; children, Richard (Kathleen) Berry of Janesville, Lori (John) Underwood of Waseca, Edward (Kathy) Berry of Altura, Daniel Berry of St. Peter, Paul (Sarah) Berry of Janesville; Thomas (Jamie) Berry of Rochester, and Lynn (Paul) Beutz of Eau Claire, WI; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.   He is also survived by his sister, Eileen Morgan; sisters-in-law, Theresa Berry, Bonnie Kastner, Barbara (Jack) Kritzer, and Gloria (Brian) McLoone; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.   He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edward and Lina Bower; brother, James Berry; daughter-in-law, Jill Berry; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca.  Visitation will be held on Friday, one hour before services at the church.   Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waseca.
