ROGER WAYNE GROTHE, age 87 of North Mankato, died in the early morning of Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.
Born in Mankato on May 31, 1935, Roger was the son of Albin Leland and Irene Clara (Berge) Grothe. He attended school in Janesville but left school in the 10th grade in order to work the farm so that his siblings could graduate and serve in the military. Roger continued farming all his life while at the same time working as a mechanic at Smith’s Mill Implement and Brakke-Bense (now Snell) automotive dealership. He had volunteered his time with the Madison Lake Fire Department and also as a snowmobile instructor. He enjoyed riding horses, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, snowmobiling, fishing, darkhouse spearing, and bowling. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville.
Roger is survived by his children, Wayne (Susan Casper) Grothe of Madison Lake, Tom Grothe of Madison Lake, Karen (Steve Danielowski) Vogelsang of Osceola, WI, and Shari (Dale) LaCanne of Faribault; his grandchildren, Michael Grothe, Matthew Grothe, Amy Jo Grothe, Karrie Vogelsang, Lucas Vogelsang, and James Wobschall; his great-grandchildren, Kaylynn Grothe, Jaicee Vogelsang, Ashton Vogelsang, Jackson Vogelsang, and Axel Vogelsang; his special friend, Ann Denn-Born of North Mankato; and many other friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 4, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, with Rev. Ted Andrada officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment will follow at the Janesville Cemetery.
