Roger Bergstrom May 14, 1917 - July 28, 2011
Roger S. Bergstrom, age 94 of Waseca, died on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Lake Shore Inn of Waseca. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 1st at 2:00 p.m. at McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Waseca with Rev. Clarke Poorman, officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Woodville Cemetery following services. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory of Waseca, and will continue on Monday afternoon for one hour prior to services. Roger Stanley was born on May 14, 1917 in Miltona, Minnesota to Alex and Claudia (Lundquist) Bergstrom. He attended Kelliher Schools in Kelliher, Minnesota, and went on to attend Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. He was united in marriage to Martha Reeve on August 6, 1939. Roger served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Intrepid during WWII from March of 1944 until his honorable discharge on October 31, 1945. During his career Roger worked for Nasvik Construction in Bemidji, Moline Construction in Jamestown, ND, and for many years building homes with his brother in the Bemidji Area. The last several years of his career he travelled throughout the U.S. as a consultant for Major Media Company of Eden Prairie. Following the death of his wife Martha, Roger married Hilda Kanewischer on June 4, 1993. They have made their home in Waseca, where they attended Grace Baptist Church. Over the years he enjoyed hunting, bird watching, sports, playing scrabble, and singing. He is survived by his wife Hilda; by his daughters Sandy (Darrel) Brown of Akeley, Donna Rae (Bob) Gosh of Woodbury and Casa Grande, AZ, and Janice Crawford of Ajo, AZ; by his stepson Ron (Mary) Kanewischer of Waseca; by 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 step- grandchildren, and 5 step-great grandchildren; by his sisters Eleanor Hamman and Millie Reich, both of Santa Paula, CA, Zella (Bernard) Pfitzer of Marina, CA, Amy Gerla of Boise, ID, and Jeanette Parks of Okanogan, WA; by his brothers Dwight (Pat) Bergstrom of Olympia, WA, Archie (Kris) Bergstrom of Puyallup, WA, and Philip (Vivian) Bergstrom of Akeley. He was preceded in death by his first wife Martha and his daughter Gwen Condon; by his brothers John, Luman, Kenneth and Donald, and his sisters Violet, and Rose. Casket bearers are Steve Brown, Donny Brown, Randy Brown, Jennifer Gosh, Andrew Gosh, and Ron Kanewischer.
