Rita M. Smith, age 86, of Faribault, died Monday, September 29, 2008 at the St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, at Immaculate Conception in Faribault with the Rev. Fernando Ortega, officiating. Interment will be held at the St. Lawrence Cemetery, Faribault. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Thursday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday for one hour prior to services. Parish prayers will be recited on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Rita Marie Smith, the daughter of John and Anna (Dudley) Smith, was born on February 12, 1922 at her family home in Shieldsville. She attended Bethlehem Academy and graduated with the class of 1940. Rita worked for 40 years as a cashier at NSP in Faribault. Rita enjoyed spending time with family and going out for lunch with her friends. She also enjoyed crafting and was very proud of her home. She was a member of the Divine Mercy Catholic Church CCW and the Daughters of Isabella. She is survived by two sisters, Margaret Hagerty of Northfield and Mary Smith of Faribault; by nieces and nephews, Jerry Smith, Joanna Angell, Dianne Roemhildt, Dan Smith, Mary Jo Meyer, Colleen Zahn, Terri Ann Smith, Judy Berge, Dan Hagerty, Peggy Christensen, Jim Hagerty, Maureen Bongers, Pat Hagerty, Bill Hagerty, John Hagerty and Tim Hagerty; by her sister in law, Joyce Smith Kaderlik of Owatonna and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Joseph Smith, her brother in law, William Hagerty, two nephews, Pat Smith and Larry Hagerty and two nieces, Laurie Smith and Mary Jane Hagerty.
