Rita Ann Slama

RITA ANN SLAMA, age 83, of Janesville, died on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

Rita was born on November 27, 1940, in Hays, Kansas to Richard and Anna Marie (Hoffman) Fries. She attended Ellis High School in Ellis, Kansas, graduating with the class of 1958. Rita was united in marriage to Mark Edward Slama on April 4, 1970 at Fitzsimmons Army Chapel in Denver, Colorado. Rita and Mark lived in Aurora, Colorado, and Winnebago before making their home in Janesville where they raised their two children. Rita and Mark shared 50 years of marriage before Mark passed away in 2020. Throughout her life, Rita worked as a secretary at Schueneman Real Estate and at the Janesville Argus. She also worked for Latch Key at JWP. Rita was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Janesville and the American Legion Auxiliary. 

Rita is survived by her daughter, Dr. LeAnn Slama; granddaughter, Makenzie Yaeger; brother, Richard Fries; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and son, Jason. 

Memorial Service will be 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Faith Lutheran Church in Janesville with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
