Richard "Dick" Paul Schnepf

May 23, 1938 — September 6, 2023

Janesville, Minnesota

RICHARD “DICK” PAUL SCHNEPF, age 85, of rural Janesville, died on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at his home with his wife by his side.

Born on May 23, 1938, in Waseca, he was the son of Fred and Adela (Weinkauf) Schnepf. Dick grew up on the family farm in rural Janesville. He attended Trinity Lutheran School thru 8th grade before attending Janesville High School, graduating with the class of 1956. Dick spent a couple of years in Boise, Idaho where he worked as a lineman before moving home and continued his education to become a Master electrician. On June 6, 1959, Dick was united in marriage to Mary Lou Oskey at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Together they made their home on the Schnepf family farm where they raised their five children.

Throughout his life, Dick worked as a lineman, electrician, sold seed for Dahlgren Seeds, and farmed, first alongside his father and later on his own. Dick found a passion for go-kart racing. He was one of the founders and creators of Sprintways International which was built on his land. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandsons in the garage, working on motors. He loved working on older vehicles, especially anything with a V8 Engine. Dick made every effort to attend any car show within driving distance. Come deer hunting season you could find Dick in his deer stand, spending time with his friends and going for a daily drive with his dog in the Dodge pickup looking for deer.  He enjoyed listening to any kind of music whether it was in his garage or vehicle. Dick cherished his grandchildren and always appreciated them stopping by to visit him. He was a member of the Janesville Sportsman’s Club, New Ulm Kart Club which later became Sprintways International, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 343 for 65 years.  Dick was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville.

Blessed be his memory.

Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary Lou of rural Janesville; children: Bradley (Kimberly Christenson) Schnepf of Waseca, Dana (Kathleen) Schnepf of North Mankato, Trent Schnepf of Colorado Springs, CO, and Melanie (Lee) Born of Janesville; grandchildren: Ben (Amanda Danberry) Schnepf, Brandon (Chelsea) Schnepf, Jessica (Joshua Browne) Born, Kira (Krystal) Born, Jeremy (Caroline) James, Cody (Brandi) Schnepf, Heather (Brent) Smisek and Rita Osborne; five great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
