REUBEN CARL SCHMIDTKE, age 94 of Waterville died on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center in New Prague.
Born on December 1, 1922 in Morristown Township, Rice County, Minnesota, he was the son of Carl and Julianna (Siervogel) Schmidtke.  He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church-North Morristown and later confirmed at St. Peters "Bell" Lutheran Church.   Reuben married Janet Krueger on April 20, 1949 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Kilkenny.  He farmed for many years and also worked at H&S Logging in Waterville.  Reuben enjoyed fishing and deer hunting.   He was a member and served on the board at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Kilkenny and was a past member of the Kilkenny Senior Citizens and Commercial Club and the Waterville Sportsmans Club.  He had also served as the township supervisor.
He is survived by his wife, Janet of Waterville; one daughter, Sandy (Doug) Webber of Plymouth; two granddaughters, Melissa (Tim) Luby of New Hope and Amanda (Derek) Frazer of Otsego; four great grandchildren, Taylor, Austin, Braden, and Amaya; and one great great grandson, Henry.  He is also survived by one sister-in-law, Inez Schwartz of Waterville and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis; parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waterville on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 4:30-6:30 PM and continue on Wednesday, one hour before services at the church. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 2:00 PM at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Kilkenny.  Burial will follow at Sakatah Cemetery in Waterville.
