Raymond Furey October 21, 1933 - March 1, 2012
Raymond D. Furey, age 78, of Faribault, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at the Sterling House in Faribault. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, in Faribault. Interment will be held at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Faribault. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday for one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be directed to Divine Mercy Catholic Church or Bethlehem Academy High School in memory of Ray. Raymond Daniel, the son of John and Louise (Auge) Furey, was born on October 21, 1933 in Mendota, MN. He attended Willow River High School and graduated with the class of 1952. After high school Ray began a 43 career working at the Chandler-Wilbert Vault Company. He started at the plant in St. Paul and worked there until 1959. During this time, on June 16, 1956, Ray was united in marriage to JoAnn Bernier at St. Genevieve''s Catholic Church in Centerville, MN. In 1959 Ray was promoted to be the manager of the Faribault plant and held that position until his retirement in 1995. In retirement they spent four years wintering in Pharr, TX. Ray and JoAnn enjoyed traveling and their travels took them to all 50 states. Ray was known for starting the Church Softball League in Faribault and helped in keeping the Horse Shoe League in Faribault going. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling and was a member of a dart league. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, JoAnn Furey of Faribault; by six children, Kim (Keith) Keller of Nerstrand, John (Karla) Furey of Faribault, Carolyn Furey of Pewaukee, WI, Ken Furey of Faribault, Robert "Buck" (Sara) Furey of Faribault and Patricia (Brad) Malecha of Lonsdale, MN; by nine grandchildren and one great grandson; by his brother, Bernard (Kay) Furey of Frazee, MN; by two sisters, Irene Thill of White Bear Lake, MN and Angeline Spindle of Sun City, AZ; by two sister-in-laws, Marion Furey of Willow River, MN and Clare Furey of Menomonie, WI and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.
