Perry Marvin Halstead

PERRY MARVIN HALSTEAD, age 77 of Alma City, died on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 in Waseca.

Born in Lynd, Minnesota on November 4, 1943, Perry was the son of Lester and Amy (Mealman) Halstead. He was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist church in Eagle Lake. He and his family moved around Minnesota for many years before making their home in Alma City. Perry graduated from Janesville High School. As a younger man Perry helped his uncle build pole-barns, and he later worked several jobs before ending his working years with National Plastics in Mankato. He loved hunting, spear fishing, fishing bullheads, birdwatching, trapping, reading, and watching outdoor programs on television. He also raced stock cars in St. Peter for many years, and he made the best smoked carp you’ve ever tasted. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, the National Handyman Association, the Mankato Moose Club, and the Minnesota Darkhouse Association.

Perry is survived by five siblings, Ervin (Sharon) Halstead of Waterville, Peggy (Tom) Reed of Janesville, Diane Vogt and her significant other Rich Olson of Kasota, Darla (Lonny) Zell of Alma City, and Allen (Darlene) Halstead of Janesville; eleven nieces and nephews, Wendy (Lowell) Bronstad, Fay Abraham, Shannon Jeffries and her significant other, Dayle Geyer, Becky (Jim) Taylor, Julie Carlson, Jessica (Scott) Uecker, Wesley Vogt, Heather (Dave) Ehlke, Bridget Hill and her significant other Cody Woodard, Jeremy (Jolene) Zell, and Nicholas (Lily) Zell; as well as many great and great-great nieces and nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; a brother-in-law, Donald Vogt; a nephew, Bill Halstead; and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at the Janesville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Kathy King officiating. Following a luncheon interment will take place at Tivoli Cemetery near Eagle Lake.
