Pearl E. Hoversten
Pearl Elaine (Wolter) Hoversten, age 95 of Waseca, died on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at Lake Shore Inn Nursing Home in Waseca. Born to Clara and Clarence Wolter on January 9, 1923, in Iosco Township during a January snowstorm, Pearl grew up on the farm and attended a nearby country school, district #60, for 8 years, followed by Waseca Central High School, graduating in 1940. After graduation, Pearl attended Mankato Beauty School, graduating in 1941. With her beautician skills in hand, she moved to Faribault and a year later purchased Milady Beauty Shop in Faribault. Pearl married her high school sweetheart, David Hoversten, upon his return from service on Navy furlough, on November 24th, 1945 at her parents farm. They lived in Faribault until 1948 when they moved to Minneapolis so Dave could attend the Baking School at Dunwoody Institute. In December of 1949, they purchased the Wegge Bakery in Janesville, which they operated as the Janesville Maid Bakery until 1970. During the bakery years, she wore many hats, including bookkeeper, staff manager, dishwasher and cake decorator. Meanwhile, she kept a family of 5 and the business running smoothly and was involved in the Janesville community. Pearl was an active member of the Janesville United Methodist Church where she served on the official board, as a Sunday School teacher, and participated in their bazaars and church dinners. She delivered Meals on Wheels for many years, was a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a volunteer for The Waseca County Historical Society and Farmamerica.
After building the home of their dreams on Lake Elysian, Pearl & Dave enjoyed over 30 years of raising their family, boating, snowmobiling, fishing and relaxing after work. Pearl enjoyed tending and showing off her beautiful flower gardens. She kept a meticulous house, but left the cooking to Dave. After Daves sudden passing, she remained at the lake home until moving to Realife Cooperative in Waseca in 1997. She embraced her new life style and took an active role on their board of directors as well. In 2002, Pearl moved to North Branch, MN to be near her daughter and then returned to Waseca in 2015, residing at Latham Place and most recently at Lakeshore Nursing Home.
Left to cherish the memories and celebrate her life are her children, William Hoversten (Patricia) and Susan Vigstol (David), all of Waseca, and Randy Hoversten (Joanne Kosciolek) of Minneapolis; granddaughters Karin (Paul) Wandersee, Betsy (Mike) Smith, Emily (Peter) Feig, and grandson Ross (Erin) Hamann; great-grandchildren, Brendan and Jackson Smith, and Zachary, Norah and Simon Feig; step grandchildren, Melissa (Nathan) Patterson, Karalee Vigstol, Andrea (Eric) Freeberg, and Reid Vigstol; step great grandchildren Ephraim Patterson, Deniel, Oscar, and Anthony Davilla, and Effie and Silas Freeberg. She was preceded in death by her husband David, parents and infant brother.
