Patrick Kirby
PATRICK JOHN KIRBY, age 71 of Cherokee, IA passed away Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA, surrounded by family and friends, following a short battle with cancer.
Patrick, the son of Joseph and Anita (Murphy) Kirby was born January 25, 1946, in Fonda, IA. His childhood years were spent on the family farm near Fonda. He graduated from Our Lady of Good Council High School in Fonda, Iowa and later attended and graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in business and finance.
On June 24, 1972, Pat was united in marriage to Mary Blowers in Waterville, MN. Following their marriage, they moved to Rochester, MN where Pat worked as a bank examiner for FDIC for a short period of time. They then moved to Waterville, MN where Pat served as Vice President of Citizens State Bank. In 1987, they relocated to Aitkin, MN where Pat was President of First National Bank, and in 2000 they moved to Cherokee, IA where he served as President of State Savings bank for 16 years. Pat enjoyed home improvement projects, wood working, and attending auctions. Pat also enjoyed his time spent at his cabin on Round Lake in Northern Minnesota.
He is survived by his two sons, Tony Kirby and significant other, Rhonda Heshiser of Dassel, MN, and Jeff (wife, Reta) Kirby of Norwalk, IA; grandchildren: Anthony Kirby, Joshua Kirby, Maci Kirby, Alex Tesdahl, Emma Tesdahl, Matt Heshiser, Hannah Gooding, and Blake Gooding; two sisters, Kate (Randy) Bass of Fonda, IA, and Mary Jo (Bob) Hartnett of the Twin Cities; and several nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Kirby; his parents, Joseph and Anita Kirby; one daughter, Heather Kirby; and one sister, Peggy Leahy.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville, MN with Fr. Michael Ince officiating. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Waterville. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday until the service time at the church.
