Oscar Berndt September 26, 1913 - May 15, 2009
Oscar F. Berndt, age 95 of Janesville, died on Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Janesville Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 18th at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville with Rev. Dr. Larry Griffin officiating. Interment will be in the St. John''s-Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Iosco Township, Waseca County. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home in Janesville and will continue on Monday morning for one hour prior to services, at church. Oscar Frederick was born on September 26, 1913 in Janesville, Minnesota to August and Emma (Knopf) Berndt. He was baptized on October 19, 1913 and confirmed on July 15, 1928, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Oscar attended Trinity Parochial School in Janesville, and Janesville Public Schools. He was united in marriage to Florence (Bosacker) Bamford on February 19, 1949 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville. Oscar and Florence have resided in Janesville their entire married life. Oscar began his career farming in Janesville Township. Later he worked for the Janesville Hatchery, tended bar for various establishments in Janesville, worked as grounds keeper for Janesville City Parks Dept, and finished his career with the Janesville Post Office in 2007 at the age of 93. He was a life long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Oscar enjoyed fishing. He was devoted to his family, which was most important in his life. He is survived by his wife Florence of Janesville; his five sons, Bill Berndt of Elysian, Jerry Berndt of Spirit Lake, IA, Duane (Tammy) Berndt of Warren OH, Doug (Bette) Berndt of Janesville, and Mark (Sheila) Berndt of Mukilteo, WA; by his daughter Julia (Bill) Schuneman of Crystal; by 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; by his sister Irma Bergmann Steinke of Janesville; by his sisters-in-law Hazel Berndt of Janesville, Martha Lanoue of Marshall, Lola Schumacher of Waseca, Ruth (Tony) Sybilrud of Waseca, Katie Tegals of Oak Forest, IL; by is brother-in-law Jay Bosacker of Tracy; by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his 4 brothers Edward (Fern) Berndt, Arthur (Melinda), Theodore Berndt, and Walter Berndt at infancy; by his 2 sisters Anna (Emil) Erdman, and Esther (Walter) Kopischke.
