SHIRLEY C. NUSBAUM , age 81 of Waterville, died on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Traditions of Waterville.
Born in St. Peter on December 4, 1931, Shirley was the daughter of Emil and Mamie (Haack) Johnson. As a young woman she grew up in Traverse, and attended school in St. Peter. She worked as an operator for the phone company for several years before marrying John Duane Nusbaum on November 5, 1957 at the Marysburg Catholic Church in Madison Lake, Minnesota. Shirley was a fixture at Nusbaum Meats in Kilkenny for many years, working as a meat wrapper and helping to keep the business going strong. More than that, however, she was an incredible mother that always prioritized caring for her eight children. Shirley enjoyed sewing, flowers, gardening, and caring for her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Canice Catholic Church in Kilkenny.
Shirley is survived by seven children, Nancy Nusbaum of Waterville, Barbara (Steve) James of Waterville, David (Tammy) Nusbaum of Waterville, Daniel Nusbaum of Waterville, Patty (Steve) Asleson of Waterville, Paul Nusbaum of Waterville, and Pete (Kathy) Nusbaum of Roberts, WI; twenty grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lorraine (Gordon) Struck of St. Peter. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, John; and one son, Thomas.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, January 7, 2013 at St. Canice Catholic Church in Kilkenny, with Father Allan Eilen officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Kilkenny. Visitation will be held from 1:00 until the time of the service at the church on Monday.
