Norman Francis Knish, age 97, of Waterville, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Waseca.
Norman was the son of Frank and Anna (Androli) Knish. He was born on June 5, 1926, in Waseca County. He graduated from Waterville High School and then was drafted into the United States Army where he was promoted to the ranks of Technical Corporal followed by Technical Sergeant. He was stationed on Leyte in the Philippines until his honorable discharge in 1946. He was awarded the expert infantryman badge, and the sharpshooter, carbine, and rifle medals. On October 20, 1952, Norman was united in marriage to Ione Adams at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville.
Norman was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church where he was active with the Knights of Columbus and served as an usher for many years. He was also a proud member of Elysian American Legion Post #311 for 75 years.
Norman farmed and was employed by Slechta Plumbing & Heating until starting his own business in 1975. He retired in 1989. A most memorable day was when Norman was able to be a part of the Veteran’s Honor Flight in 2011. Norman enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards and watching sports, especially the Minnesota Twins. Most of all, Norman enjoyed time spent with family and friends.
Norman is survived by his wife, Ione; and their three children, Thomas (Sharleen) of Waterville, Bruce (Sue) of LeCenter, and Karen (Randy) Besser also of Waterville. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Raymond and Roger.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville with Fr. Andrew Stueve as Celebrant. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM on Wednesday and continue until the time of the service at the church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterville with military honors provided by the Elysian American Legion Post #311.
