NADINE CAROL SCHEFFERT, age 95, of rural Waseca, died on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Whispering Creek in Janesville with her family by her side.
Born on April 11, 1929, in Iosco Township, Waseca County, she was the daughter of W.A. and Charlotte (Stoering) Mittelsteadt. Nadine was baptized as an infant on May 5, 1929, and later confirmed in her Lutheran faith as a youth on April 6, 1941, at St. John Lutheran Church in Iosco Township. She received her education at Janesville Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1947, and continued her education in Le Center where she went through teachers training. Nadine taught in country schools for four years in rural Waseca County. On October 3, 1951, Nadine was united in marriage to Ivan Scheffert at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Together they made their home on the farm in Wilton Township where they raised their family and farmed together for 50 years. Nadine continued to make the farm her home after Ivan passed away in 2002.
Nadine was a homemaker and enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, baking, crocheting and spending time with her family and friends. She was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church in Waldorf where she taught Sunday School and was active with Ladies Aid.
Nadine is survived by her daughters: Maxine and her husband Glenn “Denny” Hoehn and Marlene and her husband, Loren Schoenrock, both of New Richland; four grandchildren: Leah (Ryan) Owens, Chad (Jena) Schoenrock, Brady (Chrissy) Hoehn and Ryan (Taylor) Hoehn; eleven great grandchildren: Lily, Elsie and Analiese Owens, James, Ivan and Connor Schoenrock, Kinsley and Hadley Hoehn and Calvin, Archer and Violet Hoehn; sister-in-law, LaDonna Herbst; brother-in-law, Eugene (Mary) Scheffert; several nieces, and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years; parents; brothers and their spouses: Gordon (Edna) Mittelsteadt and Harvey (Naomi) Mittelsteadt; sister-in-law, Jeanette Scheffert; brother-in-law, Ralph Herbst.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM on Friday, August 2, 2024, at First Lutheran Church in Waldorf with Rev. Larry Sipe, officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM and continue until the time of the service at the church on Friday.
