Myles Alphonse Balfe
MYLES ALPHONSE BALFE, age 57 of Waseca died on Friday, August 24, 2018 at his home following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Born on March 9, 1961 in Faribault, Minnesota, he was the son of Myles Michael and Jeanette (Koelzer) Balfe. The oldest of six children, Myles grew up on the family farm near Kilkenny. He attended school in Le Center before graduating from high School at the Mankato State Campus. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1979. Following his service, Myles worked for local companies before beginning his trucking career which he continued until his health forced him to retire. Myles married Patty Arndt in 1982 and together they had 2 children, Amy and Joey. They were later divorced. Myles spent the past 25 years with his life partner and caregiver through his illness, Joni Janovsky and together had their son, Erik who also cared for Myles in his final months.
Myles was known for his strong work ethic, his story telling, his love of sports including local activities and the MN Vikings and Twins, his mechanical wizardry, and love of his family.
He is survived by his partner, Joni Janovsky; three children, Amy, Joey, and Erik; step-children, Jackie, Tyler, and Jacob; and eight grandchildren, Lexi, Cade, Mason, Peyton, Madden, Remi, Henry, and Dreena. He is also survived by his mother and step-father, Dr. Jeanette Balfe-Groh and Gerald Groh; Jonis parents, Bob and Marty Miller; siblings, Chris Balfe, Gary Balfe, Annette Balfe, Mark Balfe, Carl Balfe, and Carrie Bruggeman; step-siblings, Mary (Dr. Robert) Dado, Therese (James) Faulconbridge; and Thomas (Dana) Groh; two aunts, Marianne (Hap) Karel and Faye Balfe; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Paul; maternal grandparents, Alphonse and Mayme (Corcoran) Koelzer; paternal grandparents, Ambrose and Margaret (Keogh) Balfe; and three uncles, Peter Balfe, Brian Balfe, and Robert Balfe.
Private family services are being held. A visitation will be held for the public at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca on Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 4-7 PM. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Waterville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
