Michael A. Karow, age 56, of Faribault, died Saturday, August 14, 2010 at the Abbott- Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis following a sudden illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Faribault, with Fr. Kevin Finnegan, pastor, officiating. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault with military honors. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday for one hour prior to the services at the church. Michael Angelo Karow, the son of Mick and Darlene (Oppegard) Karow, was born on January 8, 1954 in Faribault. He graduated from Rochester Lourdes High School and then proudly served in the United States Navy. Mike attended vocational school in Red Wing for Industrial Engineering and Faribault for Marine and Small Engine repair. He worked for various marinas in Red Wing, LaCrosse, WI, and Coos Bay, Oregon. Mike married Pamela Hall and they had one child, Angie. They were later divorced. He later married Marlene Thompson Henry on May 18, 1991. Mike worked for several years at Faribault Rental then operated his own business, A1 Small Engine Repair for 10 years. A disability then allowed Mike to retire. Mike was an avid sportsman. He especially enjoyed ice fishing and hunting waterfowl and upland birds. Other passions included riding his Harley and throwing horseshoes, which included many competitions with one World Championship in his division. Mike also was active in the Cursillo movement. He was a member of the Faribault Moose Lodge 2098 and American Legion Post 43. He is survived by his wife, Marlene Karow of Faribault; daughter, Angie Karow of Faribault; step-sons, Joe Henry of Virginia Beach, VA, and Dan Henry of Minneapolis; his mother, Darlene (Gene) Tripp of Faribault; three siblings, Charleen Anderson of LaCenter, Wash., Greg (Jenny) Karow of Zumbrota, and Cindy Karow of Northfield; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Mick Karow; and his former wife, Pamela Karow.
