Melvin Nylen Schmidt

MELVIN N. SCHMIDT, age 85 of Janesville died on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Whispering Creek in Janesville.

Born on April 17, 1938 in Cordova Township, Le Sueur County, Minnesota, he was the son of Nylen and Ella (Schuler) Schmidt. He graduated from Cleveland High School in 1957. Melvin married Leanne Strauss on September 26, 1970 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville.   He was employed at Lampert Yards, Inc. in Janesville, Cleveland and Windom for 45 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and doing yard work. Melvin was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, the Chamber of Commerce, Ducks Unlimited and the board of the Janesville Utilities.  

He is survived by his wife, Leanne of Janesville; two children, Jeffrey Schmidt of New Richland and Heidi (Aaron) Bartelt of Lake Crystal; two grandchildren, Percy and Samuel Bartelt; and two bonus kids, Jordan and Nick Frederick. He is also survived by two brothers, Stanley Schmidt of Waseca and Russell Schmidt of Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his parents.
