Melvin F. Meyer, 87 year old resident of rural Waldorf, passed away peacefully with his family surrounding him on Thursday evening, June 28, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems ~ St. Marys Campus in Rochester.
Funeral Service will be 10 AM on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at First Lutheran Church in Waldorf with Rev. Michael Matthews, officiating. Interment will follow in First Lutheran Church Cemetery with military honors performed by the Waldorf American Legion Post #587.
Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Starkson & Steffel Funeral & Cremation Service ~ Arnoldt Chapel of Janesville and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Melvin Frank Meyer was born on October 4, 1930 in St. Mary Township, Waseca County, Minnesota, to Frank and Ida (Rudolph) Meyer, the youngest of nine children. He was baptized on October 19, 1930, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville and was later confirmed into his Lutheran faith on May 20, 1945 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. Melvin received his education from various schools in the Mankato area. Following his education he began working various jobs in the area before enlisting into the United States Army on January 16, 1951. Melvin proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged on September 28, 1952. Melvin was united in marriage to Ruth Grams on August 1, 1954 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in St. Clair.
Melvin had a love for farming, and through persistence, and hard work, he and Ruth achieved their goal of being able to live off the land and raise a family. Melvin was very active and determined, living his final year actively farming along side his son. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Waldorf, and the Waldorf American Legion. He was always on the go, fishing, deer hunting or riding on his gator. Melvin cherished the time he spent with his entire family and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ruth; five children: Eugene (Dorothy) of Waldorf, Wayne (Alice) of Faribault, Dennis (Judy) of Pemberton, Greg (Lori) of Waldorf and Amy Schauer of Waseca; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family. He is also survived by his sister, Agnes Kopp of North Mankato; brother-in-law, Alvin (Barb) Grams of Janesville; sister-in-law, Dorothy (Eddie) Rutt of Waseca.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and seven siblings.
