LAVONNE FERN MATZ , loving wife, mother and grandmother, age 79 of Waseca died on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Born on August 25, 1933 in Colby, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of Harold and Olive (Laabs) Klessig. She graduated from Colby High School and later from Medical Technology School in Minneapolis. LaVonne moved to Waseca in 1953 and through the years worked as a medical technologist for Drs. Gallagher, Davis, and Norman. She married John R. Matz on August 7, 1954 in Colby, Wisconsin. LaVonne loved spending time with her family, and also enjoyed playing cards (pinochle) and going up north to the cabin.  LaVonne was a member of the First Congregational Church in Waseca where she had previously been active and attended regional church conferences. She was also a past member of the Eastern Star, was a Hospice volunteer and Cub Scout Den Mother.
LaVonne is survived by her husband, John R. Matz of Waseca; three children, Cheryl (Frank) Matz Au of Bloomington, Kathy Roeglin of Plymouth, and Bob (Julie) Matz of Waconia; and four grandchildren, Jonathan, Jacob, Patrick, and Sarah. She is also survived by one brother, Gerald (Donna) Klessig of Gainsville, MO; one sister, Karen Winkler of Colby, WI; and one sister-in-law, Marian Hanenberger of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers-in-law, Bob Winkler and Raymond Hanenberger.
Visitation will be held at Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 3-7 PM and continue on Sunday, one hour before services at the church.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 2:00 PM at First Congregational Church in Waseca. Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.ÂVisits: 4
