Mary Clare Harter

MARY CLARE HARTER, age 80 of Waseca died on Monday, December 16, 2024 at MCHS-Mankato.

Born on September 1, 1944 in Waseca, MN she was the daughter of Mahlon and Lucille (Donovan) Greeney. She attended grade school and high school at Sacred Heart in Waseca. Upon graduation, she attended Minneapolis Business College. Mary Clare met the love her life, James Harter at the corner fountain across from the Rendezvous during grade school. They would later marry on October 29, 1966. She enjoyed her time as a daycare provider, giving 20 years of service to Waseca Mutual and another 15 years to Brown Printing.

Jim always wanted to live on a lake and Lake Tetonka in Waterville was as far north as she would go. After Jim’s passing, Mary moved back to Waseca where she lived the remainder of her days playing cards with a special group of ladies every Monday as well as chats on the patio with her neighbors.

Mary’s family meant everything to her. She leaves a huge hole in the hearts of her daughter, Jennifer (Troy) McDonough and son, Jamie (special friend, Julie Poehler) Harter; granddaughter, Mikayla McDonough; and grandsons, Jack McDonough and Carson Harter. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Lorraine Harter as well as nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Patricia; and a few very special friends.

Visitation will be held at the Third Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waseca on Friday, December 20, 2024 from 4-7 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday, one hour before services at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Third Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. 

Memorials are preferred to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
