Mary Gruber April 6, 1937 - June 24, 2012

Mary Ann Gruber, age 75, of Faribault, passed away on June 24, 2012 at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, in Faribault. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery, Faribault. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday for one hour prior to services. Mary Ann Kubovec, the daughter of Blythe and Mary Ann (Vak) Kubovec, was born on April 6, 1937 in Omaha, Nebraska. Mary Ann attended elementary and high school in Omaha. After high school she attended Creighton University and St. Catherine''s School of Nursing, receiving her degree as a Registered Nurse. Her first job as a Registered Nurse was at St. Catherine''s Hospital in Omaha in the Med/Surgery Department, where she worked for two years until she moved to St. Paul, MN and began working at St. Joseph''s Hospital. On September 11, 1965 she was united in marriage to Harry C.L. Gruber at Nativity Catholic Church in St. Paul. Later they moved to Faribault and Mary Ann worked at different times in her career at all of the nursing homes in Faribault. She retired from Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in 2009. Mary Ann was a devout lifelong Catholic and started each day with her prayers and also prayed the rosary. Her faith was a very important part of her life. Mary Ann also enjoyed knitting afghans and doing crocheting for her family and friends. She enjoyed her trips with Harry to Laughlin, NV and was a member of the Red Hat Society. The family would like to thank Dr. Burton Schwartz, his nurse Donna Casper and all of the staff at the Cancer Treatment Center for the extraordinary care and concern that they gave to Mary Ann. You all made her feel very comfortable and loved. She is survived by her brother, Blythe J. (Kathy) Kubovec of Omaha, NE; by cousins, Fred (Judy) Vak, Cathy Vak and Ashley Vak, all of Omaha, NE; by her loving husband, Harry C.L. Gruber Sr. of Faribault; by brother in law, Leonard (Muriel) Gruber of Lonsdale, MN and sister in law, Josephine (Eugene) Benzick of Faribault; by seven children, Margaret (Nelson) Fuentes, Harry C. Gruber Jr. (Kim), Joseph B. Gruber, Joshua M. (Mindy) Gruber, all of Faribault, Mary Ann Gruber and Kurt Stoneking of Owatonna, Adam L. Gruber of Faribault and Amanda M. (Gerald) Velishek of Faribault; by 15 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aunt Sylvia
