Mary Cromer January 15, 1910 - January 30, 2009

Mary B. Cromer, age 99 of Faribault, died Friday, January 30, 2009 at the St. Lucas Care Center in Faribault. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church at Immaculate Conception in Faribault with the Rev. Michael Kaluza officiating. Interment will be held at the St. Lawrence Cemetery, Faribault. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Arrangements are being completed by the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault. Mary Beatrice Cromer, the daughter of Ferdinand and Catherine (Thomas) Cromer, was born on January 15, 1910 in Faribault. She was one of a family of 10 children. During her childhood, Mary attended Washington Public School, St. Lawrence Catholic School for 7th and 8th grade, and Bethlehem Academy for two years and graduated from the Faribault Senior High School with the class of 1928. Mary worked at various places throughout Faribault during her lifetime. She worked for 8 years at the Faribault Regional Center and at Faribault Farmer Seed Co. For 10 years she worked at the Faribault Canning Co. Throughout her life she worked for many prominent Faribault residents cleaning their homes and taking care of their children. Mary also did child care for the Christian Women''s Club for 19 years. During her lifetime, Mary cared for both of her elderly parents. She lived with and took care of her mother for 19 years after her father died. Mary''s mother lived to be 97 years old and remained in her home on the east side of Faribault until death. Mary was the granddaughter of the late Phillip Kromer who was founder of Cromer''s Quarry in Faribault, which was eventually operated by her father Ferdinand. The stones from this quarry were used to build churches in Faribault including, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Lawrence Catholic Church and The Episcopal Cathedral of Our Merciful Saviour. The stones were also used to build schools, including many buildings at Shattuck-St. Mary''s and other buildings in Faribault and around southern Minnesota. Mary is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, friends and relatives. She will be especially missed by her great grand nephew William G. Ross of Birmingham, AL, family relative Marilynn McDermott, her DMCC Befriender, Mary Perron and her special friend Mary Ford, all of Faribault. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Bernard, William, Martin, George and Albert Cromer and by four sisters, Josephine Moya, Rosella, Catherine and

Leona Cromer.
