Marvin Leroy Langer

November 20, 1940 — May 2, 2020

MASTER SERGEANT MARVIN L. LANGER, age 79, was called to his place in heaven on Saturday, May 2, 2020, after losing his battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Marvin was born in Red Wing on November 20, 1940 to Joseph and Francis (Fassbender) Langer. After his schooling he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1960, where he proudly served his country in active duty and then the Marine Corp Reserves until retiring his military career in December 1981.

He was always busy doing something and enjoyed farming, travel, working, spending time with his family and friends, gardening, and doing snow removal and garden tilling for neighbors and friends in Waseca. He worked at Corchran's Inc. for 35 years and also owned and operated Vaugh Loaders with his son, Jeremy, and business partner Ken. He farmed from 1991 until his farm auction in 2013. He was a member of the American Legion of Waseca, the VFW of Waseca, the Knights of Columbus, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Anyone who knew Marvin knew he would always lend a hand when needed, worked hard, and had a smile and laugh that were unmistakable. He taught many the value of hard work, love of county, education, and faith, and will be missed by all.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Langer of Waseca; their children, Gina Groth of Waseca, Michele Langer of Mankato, Jessie (Andy) Kath of Waseca, Jeremy (Samantha) Langer of Waseca, Roger (Sandra) Curtis of Akeley, Barb (Jennifer Muse) Curtis of Salt Lake City, UT, and Tom (Julie) Curtis of St. Paul; and one brother, Kenneth Langer of Prescott, WI. He was blessed with grandchildren: Peyton James, Derek Paul, Emilee Ann, Alexis Michele, Madalynne May, Aydan Marvin, Mya Jessica, Joseph Edward, Bethany Hope, Samantha Faith, Angie, Andrea, Andrew, Trever, Shawn, Ashley, and Daniel.

Marvin is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Francis Langer; siblings: Arthur Langer, Grace Dusek, Victor Langer, Wilfred Langer, Bernice Curtis, Kathleen Zugschwert; in-laws: Edward and Myrtle LeQuire, Lloyd LeQuire, Louie LeQuire, Gene LeQuire, John LeQuire, Tom LeQuire, Jimmy LeQuire, and Helen Kivi; and many "Marine Corp Brothers in Arms".

Due to the COVID-19 situation, a private family service will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Waseca on Saturday, May 9, 2020. A Celebration of Life will follow this summer in Waseca for all family and friends to attend. Services are being provided by Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca where memorials may be sent for donation to a local organization of Marvin's choosing. Flowers will be provided by our dear friend and longtime neighbor Julie at Creative Touch in Bloom.

A special thank you to the staff at Latham Place Assisted Living in Waseca, The Beacon at Lake Crystal, Hillcrest Nursing Home in Mankato, and Moments Hospice.
