MARVIN J KOLLOS, age 94, of Janesville died on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at Whispering Creek in Janesville.
Born on December 1, 1927, in St. Clair on the family farm to Fred and Bertha (Glamm) Kollos. He received his education in St. Clair and graduated from St. Clair High School. On his 18th birthday, Marvin enlisted into the United States Navy where he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan during WWII before being honorably discharged on July 9, 1946. On October 25, 1950, he was drafted into the United States Army where he was stationed in Nancy, France during the Korean Conflict before being honorably discharged on October 22, 1952. In-between his time in the service, Marvin attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis where he studied Mechanics. On October 16, 1964, Marvin was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Mildred (Stankey) Born at Trinity Lutheran Church in Smiths Mill. They made their home in Smiths Mill where they raised three girls. Together, they shared 36 years of marriage before Shirley passed away on October 22, 2000.
Marvin began his working career farming alongside his brother. He later worked for EF Johnson Company in Waseca as a truck driver for over 25 years. After retiring from EF Johnson’s, he enjoyed doing janitorial work at Smiths Mill Implement until 2012 when he moved to Janesville. Marvin enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino with his family and friends. Above all else, he cherished his grandchildren. Marvin was a member of the Janesville American Legion and Trinity Lutheran Church in Smiths Mill.
Marvin is survived by his daughters: Linda (Steven) Miller of Ft. Mohave, AZ, Lori (Richard Linde) Blasing of Janesville, and Lisa (Dennis) Kuhl of Erwin, SD; 8 grandchildren: Troy Miller, Jayme Miller, Eric Blasing, Chad Blasing, Kenda Schlueter, Billy Steinhauer, Desi Barkos, and Dalton Fischer; 4 step grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sisters-in-law: Jean Kollos and Marilyn Dimmel; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers: Sidney (Joyce), George, and Harvey (Alice) Kollos.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at the Janesville Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral Homes. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Smiths Mill. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
