Martha Luise Kintzel, age 89 of Janesville, died peacefully on Thursday evening, March 22, 2018, at the Janesville Nursing Home.
Martha Luise, the daughter of Michael and Luise (Symanneck) Piorunek, was born October 22, 1928, in Farienen, Germany. Martha was united in marriage to Ludwig Kintzel on November 3, 1954. As a wife of a coal miner, they lived in Gelsenkirchen before moving to the brand new town of Wulfen, Germany. They were blessed with three children and later moved to the United States in 1969 to be closer to family in the Mankato area.
While in America, Martha slowly adjusted to the new culture. She began learning English by watching the "Sound of Music" as well as joining others in a German Club in Mankato. When they first moved to the area, Martha and Ludwig were quickly able to purchase a house to raise their family. Martha was a distinguished homemaker, and loved caring for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She never missed the opportunity to attend their sporting events over the years. Martha also enjoyed cooking, watching sports, crosswords puzzles, playing cards (especially Pfeffer) and Farkle, word searches, playing Bingo, and will always be remembered as the "card counter." She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, and enjoyed volunteering there in any way she could.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Alfred; husband, Ludwig; siblings, Otto, Gustav (Elfrieda), Emil, and Marie (Sigmund) Bellmer; and by her daughter, Angelika Milbrett on July 4, 2015.
Martha is survived by her loving children, Monika (Nick) Brown and Bernd "Ben" (Kimberly) Kintzel; grandchildren, Garrett (Courtney) Milbrett, Brooke (Alex) Cush, Walter Milbrett, Angela (Jamey) Sack, Jennifer Gilman, Kalin Brown, Josh (Toni) Brown, Jamie (Mark) Nelson, Jared Kintzel, Kristina Kintzel (Corey Rapp), and Nicole (Adam) Saidler; great grandchildren, Brandon, Cameron, Amanda, Brady, Rylee, Grady, Harper, Jaden, Owen, Autumn, Lillian, Finnegan, and one more expected soon; her only great-great grandchild, Owen; siblings, Paul (Inga) Piorunek and Friedel Piorunek; sister-in-law, Giesela Piorunek; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, with Pastor Larry Griffin and Pastor Paul Muther, officiating. Interment will follow at St. Johns-Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Iosco Township, Waseca County, Minnesota.
Visitation will be held 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Thursday morning, ALL AT CHURCH.
