Marcella Hanson
MARCELLA HANSON, age 88 of Waseca died on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Traditions II in Owatonna.
Born on September 6, 1929 in Waseca County, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Arthur and Dea (Johnson) Johnson. She was baptized in 1929 by Rev. E.A. Ryberg and confirmed at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Otisco in 1942. Marcella attended rural Waseca County School District #35 before graduating from Waseca High School in 1947. She went on to graduate from Wells Teachers Training Department in 1948 and attended college courses at Mankato State University, St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota-Waseca. She also attended special courses in woodcarving and rosemåling at the Norwegian American Museum in Decorah, IA.
Marcella married Burney Hanson on June 18, 1950 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in New Richland. They lived in Waseca for eight years before buying a farm in Otisco Township where they farmed for 32 years. She taught country school for 15 years in Waseca and Steele Counties. She was also the food service supervisor at the University of Minnesota-Waseca for 16 ½ years. Marcella taught Sunday School and Bible School at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Otisco where she had been a member for many years. She was currently a member at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca. Marcella enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, woodcarving, painting and dancing.
She is survived by her beloved companion, Peter Molland of Blooming Prairie; daughter, Laurinda (Leland) Erickson of Longview, TX; sons, Luther Hanson of rural Waseca and Lyndon (Ann) of Plymouth; grandchildren, Christa (Mark) Rucker; Katie (Paul) Gu, Heather (Peter) Hovey, Christopher Hanson, Kevin Hanson, Kayla Hanson, and Kristy Hanson; great grandchildren, Camille (Daniel) Proffer, Makenna Hovey, Kilee Hovey, Titus Rucker and Desmond Gu. Marcella is also survived by one sister, Delaine (Richard) Scholljegerdes of Waseca; sister-in-law, Marlys (Loren) Friesz of Waseca; brother-in-law, Darol (Dorothy) Hanson of Breezy Point; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alie and Vera Hanson; brothers, Maurice and Roger Johnson; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Johnson.
Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 4-7 PM and continue on Saturday, one hour before services at the church. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca with Pastor Paige Whitney officiating. Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
