Luella Kern July 7, 1915 - February 11, 2009
Luella M. Kern, age 93, of Faribault, died Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at the Northfield Hospital following an extended illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, at Immaculate Conception in Faribault with the Rev. Michael Kaluza officiating. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery, Faribault. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to services. Luella Martha Bisping, the daughter of Louis and Sophia (Bauer) Bisping, was born on July 7, 1915 in Faribault. On April 1, 1934 she was united in marriage to Lawrence Kern at the Immaculate Conception Church Parish House. Mr. Kern preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 1983. Together they farmed for several years in Walcott Township and raised their seven children. Luella also worked for over 16 years at the Faribault Regional Center, retiring in 1985. Luella enjoyed spending time with all of her family, visiting with friends and relatives, gardening and especially enjoyed going out to eat. She was a member of the Garden Club, the Daughters of Isabella and the Faribault Aerie 1460 Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary. She is survived by six children, Jerome (Alice) Kern of St. Paul, MN, Patricia (Leonard) Petricka of Faribault, Suzanne (James) Reuvers of Dundas, Kay (Allan) Michael of Faribault, Kevin (Susan) Kern of Shoreview, MN and Timothy Kern of Faribault; by 19 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and one great great grandson and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter in infancy, her daughter, Noreen Kern, by two grandsons, Mark Kern and Tom Petricka, by her sister Edna Hansen and by four brothers, Alfred, Edgar and Arthur Bisping and one in infancy.
