OBITUARY INFORMATION

LORETTA ANN SCHWARTZ, age 93 of Waterville, died at her home on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 13, 2022.

Born on August 8, 1928, at her family’s home on Main Street in Waterville, Loretta was the oldest of sixteen children born to Henry and Anna (Hollinger) Hager. As a child she attended country school at Waterville School Number 8. She lived in the Deerfield and Blooming Grove Townships for four years before marrying Vernon J. Schwartz on April 22, 1947, at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Deerfield Township. After their marriage they returned to the Schwartz family farm in Waterville where they remained for over 75 years until her death. Lorretta worked at Herter’s until their closing, and later worked at the E.F. Johnson Company for over twenty years until her retirement. Loretta enjoyed tending to her yard and garden, flowers, watching her birds-especially cardinals, playing cards, and crocheting. She was a long-time member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville where she volunteered her time with the Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters, and as a funeral lunch server. She also delivered Meals On Wheels for many years.

Loretta is survived by three children, Christine “Chris” Schultz and her significant other Ken Gottschalk of Waseca, Linda (Marshall) Nelson of Waseca, and Loren “Curly” (Arlene) Schwartz of Elysian; seven grandchildren, SkiAnn (Mark) Christiansen, Richard Schultz, Alex (Amy) Nelson, Katie (Joey) Stadheim, Nicole (Derek) Tramp, Stephanie (Justin) Wenker, and Lindsey Schwartz; fifteen great-grandchildren, Taylor (Allie) Zinkle, Parker Christiansen, Spencer Christiansen, Patrick (Indira) Schultz, Charlie Schultz, Henrik Nelson, Anders Nelson, Aksel Nelson, Declan Stadheim, Asher Stadheim, Byron Tramp, Clayton Tramp, Paxton Wenker, Sutton Wenker, and Vada Wenker; seven siblings, John (Shirley) Hager of Medford, Dennis (Becky) Hager of Monticello, Roseanne (Wayne) Barbknecht of Janesville, Gene (Tena) Hager of Owatonna, Susan (Don) Redman of Medford, Sandra Sutlief of Northfield, and Debra Halbleib of Faribault; and three sisters-in-law, Betty Hager of Owatonna, Donna Dokken of Owatonna, and Loretta (Terry) Ratajczyk of Circle Pines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2000; a great-granddaughter Faith Wenker; her parents-in-law; five brothers Neil, Donald, David, Louis, and Paul Hager; and three sisters, Lucille Hager, Mary Jean Hager, and Helen Karsten; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation for Loretta will be held from 2-5PM on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at the Waterville Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral Homes and Crematory and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Monday.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30AM on Monday, July 25, 2022, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville, with Father John Powers officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterville.
