Loren Willard Gottschalk was born on April 14, 1924 in rural Janesville to August and Mary (Rudolph) Gottschalk. He was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in his faith as a youth all at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Loren attended country school through 8th grade. Following his education he began farming along side his brothers. On August 29, 1952, Loren was united in marriage to Gloria Buker at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca. Together they made their home in Alton Township, Waseca County. Together they raised five children and shared 55 years of marriage before Gloria passed away in 2008.
Loren was a life long farmer, raising chickens and hogs and later dairy cows along with crops. He loved his life as a farmer and was proud to pass on this passion for farming to his son, Wayne. Loren instilled in all his children a strong work ethic that they all carry with them today. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was known to even listen to church services on the radio. Loren was known by many for always wearing his striped bib overalls with a hat on. One of his favorite phrases was "God Bless You". Loren is remembered as a kind and gentle soul who would help anyone around him. Blessed be his memory.
Loren is survived by his children: Ken (Chris Schultz) Gottschalk of Waseca, Dorean (John) Ball of Brookings, SD, Allen (Joy) Gottschalk of Waseca, Lori (Bryan) Larson of Waseca, and Wayne Gottschalk of Janesville; grandchildren: Tim Gottschalk, Tina (Mark) Eggert, DRae (Don) Coyner, Loren, Loree, and Lilly Ball, Twyla Gottschalk, Angela (Drew) DeRaad, Nathan Gottschalk, Joella Gottschalk, Shane, Shaphan and Sheth Larson, Wittlee and Carilayne Gottschalk; 12 great grandchildren; sister: Lois Gossman of Janesville; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
