Lois M. Manthe, age 91, of Mankato formerly of Pemberton, died on Wednesday afternoon, February 20, 2019, at Monarch Meadows in Mankato.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM on Friday, March 1, at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alma City with Rev. Keith Bilitz officiating. Interment will be in Alma City Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Lois Merrelin was born on September 15, 1927, in Immanuel Hospital at Mankato to Herman and Esther (Heyn) Boettcher. She was baptized as an infant at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville on October 2, 1927, and later confirmed in her faith at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Mankato on May 24, 1942. Lois attended Grand Meadow and North Mankato grade schools, graduation with the class of 1945, from Mankato High School. She continued her education at Kahler School of Nursing from 1946 to 1949, graduating as a Registered Nurse. In 1984, Lois received an Associate of Arts Degree from Mankato State University. On September 30, 1949, Lois was united in marriage to Marvin Duane Manthe at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Mankato. They made their home in the Pemberton area, raised eight children and shared 63 years of marriage before Marvin passed away in 2013.
Lois worked in general nursing and in nursing administration at Immanuel -St. Joseph Hospital for 35 years, retiring in 1985. Following her retirement, she continued to work at the hospital as their historian for 10 years. She was an active member in Minnesota Nurses Association at 5th District and state level, HSA 6 from 1981 1987, Rural Letter Carrier Auxiliary at County and State Level, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Martin Luther College Auxiliary Board, Lutheran Women Missionary Society, Evening Guild, choir and ladies aid of St. John Lutheran Church in Alma City, Mankato Area WELS Chorale, and Minnesota Extension Club (Night Owls) for over 50 years. Lois enjoyed music, reading, antiques, traveling and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Lois is survived by her children: Michael, Michele Eichhorst, Mitchell, Marvin (Robin), Matthew (Linda), Myron, Merrelin (Robert) Chester, Maynard (Lisa); 23 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters: Bernita Boettcher and LaDonna Boettcher; daughters-in-law: Ruth (Matthew) and Laurie (Michael); grandchild, Andy Wolters.
